My grandmother in San Fernando had a saying: good hands make a calm heart. On Sunday evenings she oiled my hair, slowly and patiently, and somewhere in those quiet hours I learned the art of touch. I am Shanice, thirty-three, born in Trinidad and Tobago and now settled in Philipsburg, where the evenings smell of salt from Great Bay and the cruise ships slip away at sunset. Massage is my true language, although I also speak English. A session with me begins without hurry: warm oil, soft music and a long full-body massage that lets the day fall from your shoulders.
