Picture a Trini woman with a laugh you can hear from across the bar and long black hair that refuses to behave in the sea breeze: that's me, Monique, twenty-six, carnival-trained and now living in Philipsburg, where I've decided the island needed a little more soca in it. I'm all about the girlfriend experience, the kind where you forget we only met an hour ago because we're already teasing each other over dinner, stealing kisses between courses and arguing about whose turn it is to choose the music.
